I find it really interesting that he was involved in that whole Red Scare thing. We listened to a radio interview with him in history about his questioning - I thought it was hysterical how they said they would drop charges if they were allowed to take pictures of his wife (Marilyn Monroe, at the time). But what does the phrase 'being inappropriate made it appropriate' mean? Of course, it was controversial that Monroe would marry a Jewish man, and even convert to Judaism herself. I find them both to be quite intriguing figures in history.
In my mind Arthur Miller seemed like a good guy. When he married Marilyn Monroe it was a shocker. Everyone thought they were an odd couple, but they seemed to really care about each other. After Marilyn became one of the most popular actresses, her health and state of mind started to detriorate. Arthur was there for her to help her. He even created a character that was specifically for her, but as the movie progressed their relationship began to become more troubled and broken. They divorce right before the release of their movie. There are many different opinions of Arthur Miller some say he left Monroe for Inge Morath, others say that Miller married Monroe for her money. Also, people believe that he was very controlling over her because she was only allowed to do one film evey 18 months. I have a different opinion. I feel as if Miller was trying to help Monroe since her health was falling apart. Maybe he restricted her from the movies because he believed that too many at once time would be too stressful and worsen her condition. I also believe that if Monroe had not got sick, that the two of them would still be together and Monroe would not have overdosed.
Just commenting on this because i feel weird only doing two...but yeah, he was a dude who wrote a play and married Marilyn Monroe, I suppose that's interesting...actually, the fact that he had three wives is pretty interesting. I think he was a little ahead of the dysfunctional curve in America with that many divorces and exposure to depression to boot!
Arthur Miller was a very prominent figure of his time, being abled to do so many things in his lifetime like working with Marilyn Monroe. He also had lots of inspiration from family like his brothers who inspired him to be a writer. That lead him to become this famous writer of plays and stories throughout history.
I feel like Arthur Miller and Marilyn Monroe were considered media glam/celebrities because of their complexities in the first place, and their accomplishments only seemed to contradict who they were, or were expected to be. I don't find them good role models, especially Monroe, but they are interesting to observe as figures in history.
